Every Fossil Tells a Story—What's Yours?

The next best thing to finding a fossil is sharing its story with others.

Join the New Bedford Whaling Museum for the October AHA! Program, where we're inviting fossil enthusiasts of all ages to share their most prized finds and the stories behind them. Whether you're a seasoned collector or a new enthusiast, this is your chance to showcase your discoveries or seek insights about a mystery specimen.

Event Highlights:

  • Community Fossil Show and Tell:
    • Share your nautical or terrestrial fossil finds and their stories.
    • Seek information or identification help from fellow enthusiasts.
    • To participate: Email specialevents@whalingmuseum.org to be added to the presenters' list.
  • Unlocking NBWM Collections with Scientist and Educator Bob Rocha:
    • Explore intriguing stories about a select number of objects in the Museum’s archives.
    • Get information about the upcoming exhibition “Up from the Depths: Natural Selections from our collections”.
    • Learn about the collectors and members who have contributed to our understanding of the past.

Don't miss this opportunity to connect with fellow fossil fans, share your passion, and perhaps uncover new stories hidden within your own collections.

This program is a precursor to the Up From the Depths: Natural Selections from our Collections exhibition, curated by Associate Curator of Science and Research, Robert Rocha—opening on Friday, October 11 in the Braitmayer Gallery.

Visit the AHA! website for more details about their celebratory activities. More fun is getting added every day. AHA! (Art, History, Architecture) provides a free platform for New Bedford’s creative community to showcase their talents collectively; making arts, culture, and creative expression accessible to all.
