First Fridays: A Fourth of July Celebration with The Jethros

Overview:
Celebrate Independence Day with a night of live music, community, and fireworks at the New Bedford Whaling Museum! This special First Friday features a high-energy performance by New Bedford’s own The Jethros, followed by a spectacular view of the city’s fireworks display from the Museum’s Harbor View Terrace. The Jethros perform an enthralling blend of folk, blues, alt, soul, swing jazz, bluegrass, funk, country, mariachi, and klezmer styles.

Program Highlights:

• 5:00 PM – 6:30 PM: Museum Exploration 
  Kick off the evening with after-hours access to the Museum’s galleries, including Morabeza: Cape Verdean Community in the South Coast, and Overheard Underwater. 
• 6:30 PM – 8:25 PM: Live Performance by The Jethros & Festive Refreshments
  Gather in the Museum’s Harbor View Gallery for a lively performance by The Jethros. Known for their eclectic mix of jazz, folk, and Americana, the band will fill the night with original songs and creative arrangements that reflect the rich cultural spirit of New Bedford.
• 8:30 PM: Fireworks Viewing & Celebration
  Head to the Museum’s Observation Deck or Harbor View Terrace, one of the best vantage points in the city, to enjoy New Bedford’s spectacular Fourth of July fireworks display (weather permitting). Soak in the charming view, the history, and the vibrant community atmosphere as the night sky lights up.

Whether performing at local festivals, wineries, or breweries, this dynamic ensemble—featuring Boney Jethro (fiddle), Homer Jethro (guitar), Rufus Jethro (trumpet), Gaston Jethro (bass), LeRoy Jethro (trombone), and Cornelius Jethro (drums)—consistently wows audiences with their original songs and unique arrangements.
