Gianfranco Pocobene on "Museums and the Vital Work of Conservation"
Pocobene is the director and senior paintings conservator of Gianfranco Pocobene Studio. His 30+ years of experience includes tenure at the Harvard Art Museum and Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum.

Class of 2026 Nominees
Susan Costa is a second generation Cape Verdean American woman who has lived most of her life in New Bedford. Susan served in a number of capacities at UMass Dartmouth, eventually retiring as the Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs. As an alum of the UMass system, Susan earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting and a Doctorate of Education Degree in Higher Education Administration. She also has a Masters of Education Degree in Counseling from Bridgewater State College. Actively involved in the New Bedford and the Cape Verdean community, Susan has served on boards and committees at the YWCA, North Star Learning Center, UMass Affirmative Action, Our Lady of Assumption Parish Council and the Women’s Fund. Since retiring Susan has become an accomplished painter who enjoys traveling and photography and is active with health and fitness. As a lover of music, she spent several years hosting the radio show Jazz Flight at the former WUMD radio station. Susan currently lives in Dartmouth with her husband Tony.
Betsy Fallon grew up in Marion and raised her family there. She has 30 years of experience in marketing and operational roles in higher education and technology companies. She has served on boards at the Marion Art Center and Sippican Historical Society, was chairperson of the Kittansett Club 100th Anniversary Gala in 2022. Betsy has been actively engaged in community initiatives, including most recently leading the fundraising effort for the Elizabeth Taber statue in Marion which was inspired by the Whaling Museum’s Lighting the Way project. Betsy has also been actively engaged with the Whaling Museum's Summer Benefit as a member of the event and host committee.
Jim Hughes is a founder and owner of Boston Andes Capital, LLC, a company which has been investing in and developing real estate projects in certain parts of the USA and Latin America since 2002. Previously Jim was a principal in the firm of Norwich Capital between 1987 and 2003, and in Boston Financial Group between 1971 and 1987, providing investment banking services for real estate projects in the USA. Jim has been a director of several private and public companies and a trustee of several not-for-profit entities based in the United States and in Latin America. Jim received degrees from Dartmouth College, Thayer School of Engineering, and The Amos Tuck School of Business Administration. After college, Jim was a Peace Corps Volunteer in Chile where he taught courses at a Chilean business school. Jim and his wife, Dr. Bess Dawson Hughes, reside in Boston and South Dartmouth. They have two adult children and five grandchildren.
Michael Moore is a veterinary scientist at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution. His focus is the diagnosis, effects, and prevention of shipping and fishing trauma on North Atlantic right whale (NARW) survival and welfare. His recent book is ‘We Are All Whalers’. He is currently assessing NARW health using aerial photogrammetry and working with a group of stakeholders to establish buoyless ‘On-Demand’ fishing systems as a viable tool to remove line from the water column. He will also continue to Chair the Whaling Museum’s Scholarship & Publications Committee.
Lucy Rose-Correia is a highly accomplished senior level Human Resource leader with over 30 years of experience in Human Resource Management and Workplace Culture. She currently holds the position of Chief of Talent, Learning and Development at Children’s Friend and Services, is a graduate of Leadership Rhode Island and holds both SPHR, SHRM-SCP human resources credentials. She has a master’s degree in Holistic Leadership from Salve Regina University and bachelor’s degree in Business Management from Lesley University. Lucy was born in Rhode Island, where she continues to make her home, and she has been active on the Whaling Museum’s Cape Verdean Advisory Committee. A champion of many Cape Verdean cultural and social organizations, Lucy is the founder and president of the Cape Verdean Veteran’s Memorial Project and of Esperanca Ja’ Hope Now!, an organization dedicated to assist Cabo Verdeans who are in need, especially youth with disabilities.
