Historical Note

Mr. Hathaway, and later, his son, David L. Hathaway, and their descendants were active carpenters and house builders in New Bedford, MA from 1852 until 1960 when their company, D.L. Hathaway & Son, was no longer listed in the business directory.

This is a small collection of business records and collected materials from the building firm of D.L. Hathaway & Son, of New Bedford, MA. The business records consist mostly of ledgers and some financial records. The collected materials are copies of The Scientific American Builders Editions and several other publications related to building.

Series I contains the business records from the firm of D.L. Hathaway & Son. It mostly consists of ledgers which record his work record.
Series II: Scientific American Builders Edition, 1887-1905
Series II contains the collected materials found on the premises at 27 Centre St., New Bedford, MA. It consists principally of The Scientific American Builders Edition from 1887-1905. There are also several publications concerned with building and design.
