Right Whale Day 2013
Every year, the Museum celebrates the highly endangered Right Whales and raises awareness of the challenges these animals face in increasing their population. This free event includes many fun learning activities for kids and adults, which focuses on fostering greater awareness and appreciation.
The fourth annual Right Whale Day on Monday, April 15, 2013 will feature inflatable whales, including one large enough to crawl into, a variety of crafts, including right whale origami and whale tail magnets, and activities such as the blubber glove and whale sleuthing. The Museum's High School Apprentices set up a Right Whale Obstacle Course on our plaza, allowing young and old alike to navigate through the ocean hazards that right whales must overcome as they swim and feed.
New this year: Artist/author Peter Stone will read excerpts from his book Waltzes with Giants: The Twilight Journey of the North Atlantic Right Whale at 11:30am.
At noon, Mr. Stone will lead a right whale drawing workshop for the public.
The festivities will end with right whale cake at 1:35pm.
All activities held in the Jacobs Family Gallery, on the Plaza and in the Cook Theater are FREE.
Regular admission to all other galleries applies. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
